Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Baby it’s COLD outside

I suppose this could be a Wordless Wednesday photo.  But it needs some explanation so words will accompany it, thereby rendering it ineligible for an official Wordless Wednesday post.

As most of you are aware it’s cold here.  Not as cold as ‘up north’ or ‘out west’ but plenty cold.  So we weren’t surprised to see Mr. Cardinal hunkered down in the middle of a privet shrub just outside our breakfast window.  What was surprising was how puffed up he could make himself in order to stay warm.

And how long he sat there letting me photograph him.  I think he was asleep.  Still, I moved slowly and didn’t get too close to the window.  Luckily my camera with the long lens was sitting right next to me.  Even Katie cooperated and didn’t bark.

He sat there for a long time, and then when we made a bit too much noise he flew off looking for a little peace.  Or some supper.

I’m so lucky to have beautiful birds visiting us regularly.  So I thought I’d share him with you!

Enjoy!

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. Joe’s Mom loved cardinals and the story goes that when she died in January a cardinal came to visit and if you look in the yard on January 2nd you will always see a cardinal sitting in the pine tree. We have lived here 16 years and it a cardinal has shown up every single year.
Baby, it is COLD. Too early.

  3. He’s gorgeous! It’s so hard to get close up photos of cardinals. They are so skittish!

I hope it warms up for you guys soon.

    • I know! They are so shy! I think this one was exhausted from the cold. We’re sending it all to you over there in the East…I hope soon. (Merry Christmas, don’t say I never got you anything!)

  4. I do love seeing your cardinals – they are so bright bright red…..the ones we have around here are not nearly that red. I always wonder how such tiny little creatures can survive the cold?

  5. He’s a gloriously puffy beauty. I’m glad you and Carol share your birds. I haven’t made any efforts to draw any in, and I so appreciate you sharing yours!

  6. I do miss Cardinals – they don’t come this far west, although I don’t know why. Certainly our cold is just as good as your cold. We, however, are warming – it was +2 this morning when I got up!

  8. Beautiful capture! The cardinals here are shy, so far, so it’s wonderful to see yours. A card/letter arrived late yesterday. 🙂 Thank you!
